We provide further opportunities to enhance children’s learning wherever possible. These include themed weeks, such as Science Week and Sports’ Week, and Theme Days, such as ‘No Pens Day’, as well as visits from theatre groups, the Explorer Dome, artists and authors.
We have a wide range of clubs available to children, both at the end of the school day, and during lunchtimes, Some are run by our teachers and teaching assistants; others are run by outside providers, who will ask for a payment for your child to take part.

During Yr5 pupils have the opportunity to take part in several residential visits, including an overnight stay at the Redwood Education Centre, and Slimbridge. Yr6 offers the opportunity for a 5-day residential visit to Beam House in Devon, where children enjoy a memorable experience incorporating orienteering, climbing, abseiling, surfing, archery and lots more. These trips are constantly refreshed and updated so that every year students are offered a variety of opportunities designed to develop an existing interest, or inspire a new one!
Sport plays a very important part of life at Charborough Road. This includes a good balance of team and individual sports, including swimming at Key Stage 2. We also run a range of sports clubs after school, including athletics, cricket, Cross Country, football, gymnastics, netball, rounders, swimming and tag rugby to name a few. The children inspire and motivate each other and constantly impress us with their achievements.
Pupils also benefit from the use of extensive sporting facilities at Abbeywood Community School.
Charborough Road School has a strong tradition of arts education. Our programme is both educational and exciting and is regularly reviewed to ensure that pupils enjoy a rich variety of experiences. This includes collaboration with artists from a range of different media such as mosaic making, dance and model-making, singing workshops and a ukulele band!
Theatre visits and visiting companies enrich the curriculum for the children and range from traditional tales to specially-written mathematical theatre. Creativity is encouraged via our after school clubs including dance, drama and art and each year we enjoy an impressive range of high quality work, productions and performances from our pupils.
